Talk and opening reception for student mural and photography exhibition exploring a historical archive project that documents Palestine in the late 19th and early 20th centuries before the Nakba. The exhibition will include student murals from Lien Truong's Narrative Painting Class and photos curated by Dr. Nadia Yaqub's classes in Arab World Photography and FYS: Imagining Palestine.

rafa esparza (b. 1981, Los Angeles; lives and works in Los Angeles) received a BA from University of California, Los Angeles (2011). Solo exhibitions have been held at Artists Space, New York (2023); Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles (2021); MASS MoCA, North Adams (2019); ArtPace, San Antonio (2018); and Ballroom Marfa (2017).

"A fig tree grows in Palestine, A fig tree grows here," created by Hong-An Truong's fall class and many collaborators, will be celebrated with music, workshops, and a teach-in.

Juan Arango Palacios was born in Pereira, Colombia, and was raised in a traditional Catholic home. His traditional upbringing was cut short by a series of migrations that his family took seeking a better future. Juan’s family moved from Colombia to southern Louisiana where Juan’s sense of identity and belonging began to be skewed by his lack of knowledge of the English language, his unfamiliarity with American culture, and his internal struggle with a queer identity.

Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose work pulls from 17th and 18th-century European portraiture, comic books, sketch comedy, folkloric dance, and installation to address race, bias, trauma, and healing.

Fidencio Fifield-Perez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but raised in the U.S. after his family migrated. His current work examines borders, edges, and the people who must traverse them. In his work, Fifield-Perez’s interdisciplinary practice centers the materiality of paper ephemera, everyday self-documents discarded after having fulfilled their purpose.
