ASGO Co-Sponsored Event: Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

March 4 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of representation from women and non-binary people.

Let’s change that.

Art+Feminism’s Edit-a-thons and other initiatives make an impact on the gender gap through crucial improvements to gender, feminism, and art-related subjects on Wikipedia. Since 2014, Art+Feminism edit-a-thons have taken place across the world, creating and improving over 58,000 articles.

Join us at Sloane Art Library on Monday, March 4 from 2 to 5pm for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to gender, art, and feminism. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and light refreshments. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. There will be an introductory presentation at 2pm, but we invite you to come at any point during the event. We invite people of all gender identities and expressions to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women.

For more information about the event, check out the Art+Feminism website as well as our event page: Chapel Hill Art+Feminism 2024

Hope to see you all there!
