This exhibition aims to present diverse viewpoints and voices from a group of emerging photographers in Nigeria, with their unique individuality, style and vision. They will explore (in some degree) the idea of freedom (in the Nigerian context) including freedom of expression, enfranchisement, the relative meaning of democracy and its varied application in different milieus, the humanity of freedom and its attendant numerical implications in an emerging nation-state like Nigeria.

This fall’s Art @ the Center will feature the work of two Lumbee artists, community-based visual artist Ashley Minner of Baltimore’s Lumbee community, and artist Alisha Locklear Monroe from the home of the Lumbee people, Robeson County, North Carolina.
The Department of Art + Art History in partnership with UNC Study Abroad are proud to present To the Field of Stars, on view at The John & June Allcott Undergraduate Gallery in Hanes Art Center from October 12-22, 2018. Presenting the work of 11 student artists, this exhibition considers the 500-mile journey on the Camino de Santiago— walking across the Pyrenees from the French border to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.
Dawn DeDeaux has merged art with new technologies for decades to broaden art and audience engagement. Early works such as CB Radio Booths embraced mobility and pre-internet communications; mid-career works offered pioneering synchronized immersive media environments; and latter works, including the MotherShip Series, are inspired by environmental challenges.
