Stan Douglas is an artist whose work explores social histories played out through complex cinematic and televisual language. His interest in the social implementation of Western ideas of progress, particularly utopian philosophies, is located in their often divisive political and economic effects.
Through an art exhibition and symposium, this program explores the ongoing impact of state violence and the consequences of the extralegal prison at the Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp through the framework of art and law. The program includes an exhibition of art created by men imprisoned at the GBDC followed by symposium speakers, including the virtual participation of several released detainee artists.

Beatriz Cortez is a multidisciplinary artist born in El Salvador and based in Los Angeles and Davis, California. Her work explores simultaneity, multiple temporalities, the untimely, and speculative imaginaries of the future.
Lorena Molina is a Salvadoran multidisciplinary artist, educator and curator. She is an Assistant Professor of Photography and Digital Media in the School of Art at the University of Houston.
rafa esparza (b. 1981, Los Angeles; lives and works in Los Angeles) received a BA from University of California, Los Angeles (2011). Solo exhibitions have been held at Artists Space, New York (2023); Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles (2021); MASS MoCA, North Adams (2019); ArtPace, San Antonio (2018); and Ballroom Marfa (2017).
