John and June Allcott Gallery: Undergraduate Honors Exhibition, Meredith Emery “All that remains | That which is left behind”

April 8, 2019 @ 8:00 am - April 12, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Blue photographic image of a white-capped wave crashing onto a sandy, pebbled shore (also resembles the pattern of water damage to a photograph). Text on the image says "All that remains That which is left behind, Meredith Emery, BFA Thesis Exhibition, April 8-12, Closing Reception April 12 at 7 pm, John and June Allcott Gallery, Hanes Art Center"

Closing reception, April 12, 7 pm

All that remains | That which is left behind (2019) glazed stoneware, decals, severe weather lumber, found wood, found objects; installation dimensions variable

This installation concentrates on visual quantification of sea level rise projections for the North Carolina coastline by mid-century. Employing hybrid strategies of data visualization inclusive of photography, found object art, and printmaking, I have created ceramic boxes depicting contemporary and historic imagery of the 23 NC coastal counties that are impacted by sea level rise. The dimensions of these boxes correspond to the ranges of sea level rise that are predicted under best-case and worst-case emissions scenarios for 2045. Boxes are mounted on the wall to a height of 6.6 feet, the highest projection for global sea level rise by 2100.

All that remains | That which is left behind will be exhibited in the John & June Allcott Gallery in Hanes Art Center in April 2019, with support from The Sarah Steel Danhoff Undergraduate Research Award and the Incubator Awards: Research Grant for Creative Artists.
