John and June Allcott Gallery: Southern Exposure: Academic Book Arts in the New Millennium

Co-sponsored by the College Book Art Association, artist’s book works submitted to this exhibition were created by faculty, staff, and students of academic institutions in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. A contemporary survey, the juried works demonstrate the breadth and depth of work being produced in programs across the South.
Alisa Golden served as juror for the exhibition. Author of Making Handmade Books: 100+ Bindings, Structures & Forms, Ms. Golden works under the imprint “Never Mind the Press”. She is a former program director and board member of the Pacific Center for the Book Arts. In addition to making books, she has taught book structures and printing in the San Francisco Bay area including CCA, the San Francisco Art Institute, the San Francisco Center for the Book, and Ocean View elementary school. She has also taught “Writing and the Creative Process” at John F. Kennedy University, Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at CCA. Southern Exposure has been co-organized by Lisa Beth Robinson, Assistant Professor at East Carolina University’s School of Art and Design, who is a member of the Exhibitions Committee at CBAA.
This show will travel to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in March 2016.
