Congratulations to 2019 MFA Sarah Elizabeth Cornejo on receiving the MFA Top Prize award, juried by Mike Tan this year. He was so impressed by all of the work, and it was a really difficult decision. Everyone should be incredibly proud of the work they accomplished; the Fruit exhibition was exceptional. Congrats to all, with a special congrats to our Top Prize as per Mike Tan: “Sarah Elizabeth’s practice brings familiar humanoid forms into contact with assemblages of petrified materials which seemingly defy past, present or future. The ambiguity positions the body as a site for expanded conversations about futurist themes in the Anthropocene. By building up skulls, earth, stones and man-made materials into totemic formations at once spiritual and cryptic, Sarah reimagines a state of productive cohabitation with new technologies which is cautionary yet inviting of further contemplation.”
