Synesthesia is a sensory condition through which the stimulation of one sense involuntarily triggers the perception of another sense. The resulting cognitive associations can manifest in unpredictable ways–one of the most common reported synesthetic experiences is the association of color with specific sounds and tones. For this project, Stephens has created a space filled with textures of light and shadow, an environment for experiencing a crude approximation of this condition, which is mediated by the simplicity of analog circuitry.
