Don’t Be Intimidated by This Painting is the first exhibition presented by Carolina Creates Visual Arts (CCVA), a new cross-campus initiative designed to highlight and inspire creative talent. CCVA has teamed up with UNC’s Curatorial Projects class to exhibit the work of all 17 artists in UNC’s competitive MFA program.
This comprehensive exhibition is a rare chance to experience the current work of the entire MFA program. Don’t Be Intimidated by This Painting encourages the public to recognize and consider the intriguing similarities and compelling differences within each artist’s body of work as well as between the artists.
These impressive artists explore issues such as race, geography, time, materiality, process, faith, androgyny, evolution and more. The diversity of this exhibit is proof of the dynamic vision of these young artists. In this way, Don’t Be Intimidated by This Painting is a testament to the rich depth, talent and variety that is representative of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s community.
Don’t Be Intimidated by This Painting will begin with an opening reception on November 4, 2011 from 6-8pm. Please join us. This is an opportunity to meet the artists, curators, and Carolina Creates staff.
